Not only was the cake the most delicious and the most beautiful, but it was delivered promptly. The great thing about Creative Cakes besides the wonderful artists and bakers is the owner. Randi Goldman. She took us through the process of choosing a cake for our daughter's wedding (Yes! Our daughter asked her Dad to choose the cake. Telling him, I want my guests to leave saying it was the best cake they ever tasted) And made us feel so good and happy about what could have felt arduous and scary. I wish you could taste it. It was mandarin orange flavored and it looked like a piece of sculpture.

Our wedding venue (The City Club of Washington) had a contract with Creative Cakes, so we went with them for our wedding cake. The cake itself wasn't a huge budget priority for my now-husband and me, so it was nice to not have to think about which bakery to use for our wedding. Fortunately, Anne Lutz made our tasting and overall experience very easy and simple. The bakery is located in a small industrial park, but the interior of the bakery is welcoming and cute. We had a Saturday morning private appointment (don't go for the open house, get an actual appt) with Anne, who walked us through the basic cake our contract allotted, and we sampled ourselves silly with the different cake flavors. We were allowed to choose three flavors, one per layer, and went with chocolate/vanilla marble, butter rum (SO good), and chocolate. I like that their buttercream is an American-style buttercream and is actually tasty, not cloyingly sweet or gritty like many wedding cakes I've tried at other weddings. Anne integrated ribbon along the bottom border of each layer to match our color scheme, and was helpful in making sure it didn't "bleed" onto the frosting. She also helped us to "upgrade" our frosting filling from the standard vanilla buttercream to a fudge-y buttercream, and it ended up being only $75, but it totally elevated the cake, so it was $75 very well spent. The top of our cake had plenty of room for the custom cake topping I ordered from Etsy, and Creative Cakes delivered the cake on-time and exactly as promised, and they were a joy to work with.

Ordered a cake for a child's birthday party. Unfortunately, it was last minute but the price paid for the cake was ridiculous! The cake was good and cute but for the size and price was crazy. It appears that specialty cakes may be worth it but a typical birthday cake for a party - I would definitely recommend somewhere else.

We recently had a "Creative Cakes" cake at a friend's birthday party, and WOW! It was moist, delicious, beautifully decorated, and was just one of those "ok, one bite" after another experiences!!! I didn't realize it was Randi's business, and what fun, because she was one of my FIRST employers many years ago at a family-owned catering company. It was so fun to experience her culinary genius once again - I would highly recommend her cakes to anyone looking to make a delicious impression on guests. Yummm!!!

I hired Creative Cakes to make my wedding cake, I will definitely write an update post-wedding. At the tasting, our consultant was very helpful and assisted us in our baking education to understand all of the different styles and options to choose when customizing a cake. The tasting was free and all of the cake flavors were delicious. My favorites were almond, manderin, and the spice cake.

Creative Cakes did our wedding cake. They did a good job. This November my husband went back and had them replicate our top tier because we didn't preserve it right and were out of the country for our first anniversary. It was ridiculously dry. We ate it the same day we picked it up. I was so disappointed. While I know that a top tier is not the same type of business as an entire wedding cake or extravagant birthday cake, I fully expected them to produce our cake with the same quality they do their other work. Husband still got kudos, but none for Creative Cakes on this one.

What a wonderful experience! We went for a cake to celebrate my parents anniversary and we were talking about blondes, low and behold there was 2 of them and 4 different cookies and a brownie. The only thing missing was the partridge in a pear tree! I thought I was going to gain waight just from the wonderful smells, but it was the cookies that were the culprit. We will be going back as i seldom find a place that is this easy to deal with. You tell them what you want or show them a picture, pay then pick it up as promised. Even the bathroom was spotless! Randy and her team have more talent then the food channel shows and you can eat it not just watch it.

Great resource for amazing edible artwork. Custom designs, shaped cakes and wedding cakes are their specialties - these are truly one-of-a-kind artisanal cakes made by artists using fondant, sugar, etc. Pricing is very fair - very inexpensive by comparison to other places in DC. They will work with you to come up with a custom design based on your ideas. I picked up a cake that a friend had ordered for a 30th birthday and it was gorgeous. (See photo of the white & pink cake with cherry blossoms and the silhouetted image of a girl walking her dog.) I've only tasted one cake from here, and it was fine. Not the best cake I've ever had, but you don't purchase a cake like this for the frosting quality - it is a work of art. If all you're looking for is a typical child's birthday cake you should probably go elsewhere - the price may not be justified for you. But if you want a cake that looks and is actually shaped like a vintage suitcase, complete with travel stickers, come here. They do a monthly cake tasting - I hope to attend one in the future so I can see more of their work and taste more of their products.

Happy with the final result but not the process. We came here to get our daughter's first birthday cake. The place is in a warehouse district and the showroom is just a dingy room - not inviting at all. The customer service was awful - the woman who "helped" us answered all our questions with a snarky attitude. For example, I asked her whether they use different ingredients for the baby's cake, and she responded "why would we do that?" like it was the most idiotic question she'd ever heard. We paid $150 for a 10" round cake with buttercream icing and about $7 for a matching cupcake for the baby. It was on the high end given that we weren't asking for anything that required too much artistry (just rosettes) but the end result was beautiful. So would I go back? Yes, but next time I won't go in expecting anything from the service and will come with a clear idea of what I want. P.S. They got the flavor of the big cake wrong.

I guess it just wasn't my lucky day. After reading all these glowing reviews I was so excited to order my daughters 1st birthday cake from Creative Cakes. Other than my wedding, I've always ordered cakes from local Giant bakery and been pretty happy. But I decided to splurge for my baby girl. I must say Randy was very accommodating of my last minute order and how I wanted my 'princess' cake to look. It was beautiful! Pink and sparkly with all the wonderful flowers and butterflies I wanted. I couldn't wait to taste it!!!....total disappointment. The beautiful cake tasted like nothing. Absolute tasteless. Maybe it was the flavor I chose (marble) or maybe because i wasn't a big wedding cake order. But still one huge let down. Not a huge fan of the industrial park location either. Randy is great and the cakes look pretty enough but probably won't be a repeat client

Okay to say I was disappointed is a understatement. I ordered a cake for my boyfriends party...they nailed the design down...I wanted a caricature cake and that's what I got. For $165....I expected to the cake (red velvet) to taste like something....it was completely bland...it didn't taste like red velvet, it was pretty tasteless. My only saving grace was my boyfriend is not picky (thank god) and he and his friends were too drunk to realize anything was amiss. My friends on the other hand thought I was foolish for ordering a $165 cake in the first place. Bottom line if you want a pretty tasteless cake....creative cakes is the place to go. I will not be returning here.

Bought a cake with wedding picture on it for parents 60th wedding anniversary. Almond cake, raspberry filling and buttercream frosting. It was amazing. It looked fantastic, and the taste was so wonderfull. I could not stop eating it!!. Website was very helpful and the staff on phone were very professional. Some might consider it a little pricey, but it was well worth it.

Amazing, amazing, amazing!! We went to one of their cake tastings and decided on white cake with crushed almond filling and buttercream frosting. We ordered it for a small wedding. They were very willing to look at several pics and combine my vision into a one tiered square wedding cake. My guests were in awe and couldn't say enough good things. We will be using creative cakes for all our events. My friends now want to sign up for their monthly cake tasting to decide on their own cake. We will never go to another bakery!! Creative Cakes has won us over.

I ordered a chocolate cake with raspberry filling and chocolate buttercream icing for a baby shower. I am extremely picky, and it was not only gorgeous, but tasted wonderful. Everyone at the party raved about the cake, and I'll be going back. And to the person who said that Cake love is better, that place is terrible. Creative Cakes is much, much better.

This is where we got the wedding cake for our big day. Certainly not Cakelove, but decent as far as wedding cake. Creative Cakes offers eleven "standard" flavors of cakes, and - in addition- five specialty flavors that are fifty cents per serving more. If you invite more than 100 people to your wedding, they offer sheet cakes (on top of an ordered tiered cake) for only 75 cents per serving that match the cake and icing flavor. Creative Cakes seems to have agreements with every major (and not so major) hotel in D.C., VA, and MD so if you are getting married in a hotel like we did, it is no brainer to go with them. They hold free tastings once a month at their "store." They also offer cakes for a variety of occasions including birthdays, showers, groom cakes and more. For wedding cakes, they included a box and explicit instructions for us on how to save and freeze the top tier to have on our first anniversary, I must admit, it did taste pretty good and no freezer burn!

Randi Goldman is a pleasure. I've worked with her in a variety of contexts and she is ALWAYS the first baker I recommend to any client. She's sent me cookies for the holidays in the past. She has a mean chocolate chip and a fabulous cinnamon raisin. I've photographed her cakes at various events and I just need to say that they LOOK spectacular and the reviews (as noticed by the many oohs and ahhs) are good. Perhaps one day I'll actually get married and have Randi bake me a cake. (FYI: the bakery is a little out of the way, but it's worth the trek. I know she also makes yummy kosher cakes and treats!)

I was freaking out because I could not find a decent "cakery" in DC! (Is that a word? I don't want a bakery. I just want cakes!) I was chairing for my fraternity's 60th anniversary. So, I went to bakeries in the DC areas and they only had like 5 cakes to choose from and each cake can only feed like up to 20 people. I needed a cake that could feed at least 100 people. Somehow, I found Creative Cakes. However, I wasn't happy that I had to travel out to Silver Spring. But with no choice, I went. However, I lucked out because I came on a Sunday that Creative Cakes just happened to have their monthly day of tasting. O. M. F. G. Their cakes are sinfully delicious! So many different flavors yet I could only select two. What I can remember, they had butterum, lemon, chocolate & vanilla marble, red velvet, mandarian orange, carrot, banana and much more. Anyways, I got the cake for my fraternity's anniversary. Everyone loved it. Creative Cakes did a fantastic job on the cake! So, why the 4 stars instead of 5? First of all, my frat's event was on a Saturday. CC told me that they don't deliver on Saturdays. So, the cake was delivered on Friday. Secondly, when they delivered my cake, it was in a box but with no cover. It was drizzling outside. I wished they had told me before that there would be no top cover when it was delivered. Mind you, I paid $300 dollars for a 1/2 & a 3/4 sheet. They simply explained that it was a condensation reason for not covering the top. Lastly, a photo scan is not ideal, especially if you have to wait the next day to show off the cake. The scan will fade slightly. Regardless, the cake should taste good and it indeed tasted heavenly!

Creative Cakes did our wedding cake and it tasted great. Only difficult part of the process was that we could have used some more help with initial ideas, but once we got rolling it was easy. They were able to work well with the hotel we were getting married at. I'm ready to have a piece of our anniversary layer already.

We got our wedding cake from Creative Cakes at the recommendation of Gayle, among other people. If you miss one of the monthly tastings, you can make an appointment to go out and pick up a "tasting box" which is what my husband and I did. Over the course of several nights, we tasted all of the flavors and then decided upon the flavors and design of our cake. We had a large wedding, so we had as many tiers as CC would allow, with a back room sheet cake. My cake was one of my favorite parts of my wedding (aside from my husband and my dress, in that order), so I think things worked out pretty well with Creative Cakes.
